SILIANO ODUNO SPENT FIVE YEARS CREATING HIS NEW GROUP
Siliano Oduno has been working towards this moment for five years: I And I are making their debut as part of the annual Winter Festival of the Architecture Department of the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences for Graphic Design and Architecture. A "Masked Ball in Red" with an original lineup and many quirky surprises will start in TOR 3 at 19:30. "l and l" will bring musical power to the event around 22:30.
"l and l" stands for "we” in Africa and African influences are the mainstay of the band's music, which are starting off at a high level. You can hear pop, reggae, hi-life, funk and European pop influences in the mixture. Siliano Oduno preferred playing on German stages at the end of the 70s. He has been playing various percussion instruments for 22 years now.
When he bid farewell to the Rhineland in 1982 with a concert in the Stadthalle, he already had his new concept in mind. It should be experimental and Afro-Reggae-Pop. His experience in African bands gave him the necessary "kick" to create his own compositions using home recording techniques. Meanwhile Oduno sounds so "African", as if he had grown up in Africa.
However, the foundation of the band was not definite until the beginning of the year when the band's lineup was confirmed. The musicians are all top-class, as can be seen from the first demo cassette "la musica es mi mundo", which was recorded in February at the Wave-Klang-Studio in Düsseldorf. Perfectly arranged, full of atmosphere, like a live recording in the very best recording quality, you can already sense how much potential "I and I" has.
Siliano Oduno has proved with the creation of his group that he has a great musical talent. The musicians are all top-class soloists who have succeeded in forming a homogeneous unity in an astonishingly short period of time, "l and l" thus making a perfect debut.
