King-of-Pots & Alexander "Sobo" Sobocinski

The KING of POTS

Alexander "Sobo" Sobicinski und der "KING of POTS" in Potsdam

He plays brilliantly on normal pots and inspires his audience. However, other kitchen utensils are also used musically.

Siliano Oduno plays as King of Pots with guitar accompaniment, piano or even African sounds in various ensembles throughout Germany. His concerts at various festivals, together with Janet Moore (Kenya) and Fara Diouf (Senegal), in Hamburg, in Cologne at the Museum of Applied Arts MAK, at the Afrika-Tage with Mama Afrika and Sidiky Coulibaly, as well as at the MitAfrika-Festival in Cologne and at the SWR in Mainz, confirm his versatility.

The artist himself is surprised by the standing ovations and cheers as soon as the audience hear the peculiar sounds of the cooking pots. As a percussionist, he has accompanied numerous African bands and today incorporates his knowledge from vibraphone lessons with a renowned percussionist into his pot music. His many original compositions are also clearly influenced by the sounds and styles played on the African continent.

“ I see lively music as a celebration, a language, international understanding and love at the same time.  My music demonstrate how important and valuable "foreign" influences are, especially for us Germans". Music is understood worldwide as an international language.”

Siliano Oduno began to play drums himself at the age of 8, then later the congas and the vibraphone. He has already played in many groups from rock to pop to jazz as well as in his own band projects.

This extensive contact with other cultures ultimately influenced his way of playing. His compositions are written entirely by himself, his way of playing on pots is best compared to the sounds of a kalimba, a ballaphon or a steeldrum. In combination with the perfect sound of the accompanying musicians, the imperfection of the pots gives the percussive African performance its charm.

Alexander „Sobo“ Sobocinski, Guitar

Alexander Sobocinski is better known to most people as Sobo. His multifaceted guitar playing ranges from jazz to tango, pop, rock and metal.

He started playing the guitar at the age of 15, influenced by 70s rock bands.  In 1996 he founded the metal band "Jack Slater", with whom he played concerts in Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and Poland for 13 years.

Inspired by his former guitar teacher, Sobo discovered his passion for jazz in his early twenties. Soon afterwards he studied jazz guitar at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Arnhem with Frank Siechmann and Bernhard Reinke. He graduated in 2008 with a diploma.

The passionate traveller gained many new musical experiences on his travels through Spain, Portugal and South America, often playing in beach bars, restaurants or on the street. Since his stay in Buenos Aires, during which he took tango lessons with Anibal Arias and Claudia Humoller, he has also dedicated himself to this style of music.

Back in Germany he brings numerous projects to life, composes, teaches and plays as a sideman in several bands, including the "King of pots".
